Wednesday, 12 February, TKSV held a Parent Workshop on the teaching of mathematics to our students in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1 (KS1).
🧮 Our Approach to Mathematics
At TKSV, we teach based on the English National Curriculum, and for the teaching of mathematics, it follows the Mastery Approach. This approach ensures a deep understanding of mathematical concepts by learning in a structured manner.
🎲 Mathematics in EYFS
Parents were also demonstrated how maths is initiated in EYFS through play-based activities within free provision. The importance of the Concrete, Pictorial, and Abstract (CPA) approach was also explained, emphasizing its necessity in building solid mathematical foundations.
📖 Mathematics in KS1
Children transition from EYFS into KS1, where learning is delivered through a structured Scheme of Work (SOW) ‘Power Maths’ which will develop problem-solving and mathematical fluency.
📱 Technology & Mathematical Fluency
Parents were also introduced to the apps and online resources we use to facilitate mathematical fluency, making learning more enjoyable and interactive for the students.
It was a productive session, allowing parents to know how mathematics is taught at TKSV and how they can help their children learn at home. 🎓✨
